Inspiration & Recognition

Abstract images abound begging visual interpretation. The What and Why become irrelevant as one is drawn into the images with delight and wonder imaginatively analysing whilst forming one’s own opinion which shifts at every viewing.
Press · In Their Words
Colin Charles Harris is a young man obsessed — but in a good way. Images of common things, transformed into lush secrets and unsettling forms, flood his inner eye. Harris is involved in what might sound like a mythical art project: the single-minded pursuit of hidden realities that he uncovers because of the rigorous way he organizes himself to look for them. What he discovers is always new, as much to himself as to his viewers.

All the images are natural objects, and all are lit solely by the sun. “Even though these are surreal and totally abstract, they’re nature in all its glory. The story the photographs tell isn’t etched in stone. It’s up to the viewer.” Harris is displaying 41 images in “Ambience,” a major solo exhibition of his work.

Photographic Abstractions of the Natural World

The abstract images Colin presents only ‘come alive’ when viewed. When the imagination interacts with the visual stimulation, they become personally memorable and evocative prompting discussion and opinion.

My photographs are very personal visualizations of my life quest to seek spirituality and enlightenment.

Beauty of nature

The Natural World
Colin’s exploration of the natural world highlights the interplay of shape, color, and texture. His images reveal nature not as passive subject matter, but as an active force – provoking curiosity and leaving the viewer wondering how such scenes could exist unseen.

Unique Perspective

Through the use of magnification and close exploration, Colin transforms ordinary natural elements into unfamiliar and compelling visual landscapes. His camera ventures beyond the limits of human sight, uncovering intricate structures and hidden depths. What initially appears static becomes fluid and dynamic, creating immersive images that function as visual archives of form, color, and movement.

The natural world never ceases to stimulate and fascinate me. Using composition to create works of light, form and texture enlivens me to find natural subtleties and present them in a uniquely beautiful perspective.

Technical

The images are equally sought after to be hung in people’s homes, or in corporate environments. There are numerous possibilities and formats that Colin can guide a buyer regarding Size/Scale – dependant on Position/Location, Material, Lighting and so many other factors which add value to the images’ presentation.

I’ve always believed you can only take photographs as good as your lens. When I bought my first camera, I chose it because of the optics and the engineering behind it, not because it was fashionable. I’m interested in systems that last, systems where old and new equipment can work together. That adaptability matters to me. I’d rather use a camera or a lens that allows me to solve the problem at the moment of exposure than fix it later. Photography begins and ends with the camera.”

Equipment Bag

Colin is as passionate about his equipment as he is about his subject matter. Over the course of his career, he has become highly skilled with photographic equipment, carefully selecting the most suitable tools for each job at hand..
Panasonic Lumix Digital
That was more of a practical option I carried along side my film cameras.
Nikon Film Cameras
Nikon gave me the ability to invest in a system. New gear, old gear, it all worked together.
Nikon Digital Cameras
I could buy a bellows from the 1950’s and because on the nikon F-Mount, it would still work on a modern Nikon camera body.
Calumet Large Format
Amazing quality, but the only thing really worth anything in that system was the Fujinon lens.
Fujinon Large Format (210mm)
The lens was beautiful. Immaculate condition. That was the real value of the system.
Olympus Film Cameras
I’ve always known that Olympus lenses are remarkable. This system will let me do what Contax once did for me.
Contax 159MM
I purchased this camera primarily because of the Zeiss lenses it used, the fact that it was designed by the Porsche design group was a bonus.
Yashica System
The Contax system shared lens mounts with Yashica, this made a versatile camera system even more so.
Zeiss Lenses
Zeiss were German made. For the Contax system some were manufactured in Japan, they were still amongst the finest lenses in the world.
